Anchorage, Alaska (January 2004) - Midnight Sun snags yet another medal for its ferociously smooth Arctic Devil Barley Wine at this year's Great Alaska Winter Brew and Barley Wine Festival. Midnight Sun claimed the 3rd Place Gold Pan for its 2002 vintage, which was split into various oak barrels (including bourbon) for aging then blended back before packaging. Like the Arctic winds that stormed fest-goers with subzero temps, four of Alaska's breweries swept the prize cache: Glacier Brewhouse (1st), Alaskan Brewing (2nd), Midnight Sun Brewing (3rd) and Sleeping Lady Brewing at Snowgoose Restaurant (Honorable Mention). Competing amongst twenty-plus barley wines, these Alaska breweries upped the ante for subsequent years' competitions. Cheers to Midnight Sun's brewers!!
